out with the old

There are still some photos from 2006 lingering on memory cards and hard drives. the next few days will be the last you will see of 2006 so that i can make way for the new year.

Natural Bridges
some time in November

sometimes the best getaways are just outside your doorstep. this was my first time going to Natural Bridges, which is just north of Santa Cruz along highway 1. If you ever go, go in November, for the place is famous for the monarch butterflies that hatch from their cocoons nested away in the eucalyptus trees just before thanksgiving. it's pretty damn awesome, as there are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of butterflies fluttering above you in this eucalyptus forest.

suddenly, i feel like walking outside and hugging a tree. and then i remember this sight:

New Year, New Gifts

Not only the name of the current exhibition at the museum, New Year New Gifts also implies the rebirth of this blog. Why you ask? Well apparently the camera gods were working in my favor and santy claws decided to drop a few jems at my doorstep. This holiday season I scored on a new Holga that beats out my old one, a fish-eye lomo, aaaaaannnnddd......A DIGITAL SLR!!! Shout outs to Lea and LJ for the love.

here is the first new gift of the year, my brother chowing down on my mom's homemade chili crab over the holiday vacation. Chili crab is like gold to my brother and i.

On another note, you really should go check out New Year, New Gifts at the San Jose Museum of Art. Its the latest and greatest of our permanent collection, including yet another hitter from Hung Liu, a gorgeous piece by Binh Danh, and this amazing large scale paper cut-out by Dave Best.

Here's to 2007 and plenty of captured moments.
